Borrow a Chromebook

The library is loaning Google Chromebooks to UHMC students. Currently, we have 9 Chromebooks to loan out. For information on borrowing, please go here.

Chromebooks are not regular laptop computers. According to Wikipedia:
Chromebook is a personal computer running Chrome OS as its operating system. The devices are designed to be used while connected to the Internet and support applications that reside on the Web, rather than traditional applications that reside on the machine itself. All the data is stored in the "cloud" accessed by an internet connection. A Chromebook is an example of a thin client.
If you need access to MS Office applications, like Word, please visit one of the campus' computer labs.

Medieval helpdesk, some things never change.

You have to realize the guy has been using scrolls his whole life and not books (codex)! Books are the "new" technology.

Google Docs

The library's computers do not have MS Word installed. These computers are specifically purposed for accessing the Internet. If you need to do some word processing and do not want to go to Ka Lama Computer Lab or The Learning Center, try Google Docs. You will need to set up a Google account.

Once you have a Google Docs account you can:

Create basic documents from scratch or start from a template.

You can easily do all the basics, including making bulleted lists, sorting by columns, adding tables, images, comments, formulas, changing fonts and more. And it's free.

Upload your existing files.
Google Docs accepts most popular file formats, including DOC, XLS, ODT, ODS, RTF, CSV, PPT, etc. So go ahead and upload your existing files.

Familiar desktop feel makes editing a breeze.
Just click the toolbar buttons to bold, underline, indent, change font or number format, change cell background color and so on.

Students, get connected!

UH Students, new computers in the library help you connect to the Internet. If you are a UH student, the library's Internet computers provide fast and easy Internet connectivity.

The computers are for research and don't have the full Office suite or productivity software you will find in Ka Lama Computer Center (a.k.a., The Business Lab) or The Learning Center.

Community users are not permitted to use the library's computers. For the community the public libraries (no affiliation to MCC Library) and the many Internet cafes on the island are availiable for your use.
